7 DAYS: MARA / NAKURU
/ TREETOPS / SAMBURU LODGE
Day
1: Nairobi-Maasai Mara.
Drive from Nairobi down the Great Rift Valley with a stop at the viewpoint,
cross to the western side of the rift to get to Maasai Mara in time for
lunch at Keekorok lodge. After lunch, our expert driver guides and all-season
vehicles ensure you get the maximum chance of spotting the animals and
a real understanding of their lives. Dinner and overnight at Keekorok
Lodge.
Day 2: Maasai Mara.
Early start for a pre-breakfast game drive is at 0630hrs to 0930hrs. Ecologically
the Mara is an extension of the great Serengeti plains and teems with
wildlife. This is where we can see elephant, buffalo, lion, cheetah, leopard,
zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and a whole ark-full of other smaller
animals and birds especially the birds of prey in their natural surroundings.
From July to September, the Mara is home to the great wildebeest migration
from Tanzania. Return to the lodge for late breakfast and relax by the
pool as you wait for your lunch. Enjoy another evening game drive in this
park as you watch the sundowner. Dinner and overnight Keekorok lodge.
Day 3: Maasai Mara-Lake
Nakuru.
Check out the lodge after breakfast and enjoy a short game drive enroute.
Drive from the western wall of the Great Rift Valley and get to the floor
of the rift valley at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch at the
lodge. Relax by the pool as you wait for the best time to see the animals.
The afternoon game drive is from 1600hrs to 1830hrs. Thousands of both
greater and lesser flamingos blanket the shores of the Lake. You will
also have a chance to see both black and white Rhino since the park is
a Rhino sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru-Treetops
Check out the lodge after breakfast and enjoy a game drive enroute. As
you leave the main gate of the park, the baboons will say bye-bye. Drive
via Nakuru town and climb the eastern wall of the Rift Valley to stop
at Thomson's falls.
Its 100kms before you get to the Aberdares Outspan hotel for lunch. Transfer
to the Treetops lodge after lunch to watch the game from the balcony.
Animals frequent this area as they come to drink water and lick salt.
Dinner and overnight lodge. Note that drivers are left at the Outspan
and children below 5 years are not allowed at the Treetops.
Day 5: Treetops-Samburu.
Leave Treetops early morning and join your driver at the Outspan and have
breakfast. Drive further North via Mt. Kenya base town and get to Samburu
for lunch. Afternoon is spent exploring this wonderful game reserve. A
visit to Ewaso Ngiro river gives you a chance to see the crocodiles. Dinner
and overnight at Samburu Lodge.
Day 6: Samburu
This is a whole day spent in this park with 2 game drives; one in the
morning and another one in the evening. Located in the semi-arid parts
of northern Kenya, Samburu teems with wildlife and birds and it is a true
representative of the semi-arid ecosystems of East Africa. Some of the
unique wildlife species found here include the long-necked Gerenuk, Grevy's
Zebra and birds such as the Batelleur and Buffalo weaver. Optional brief
visits to a Samburu village ("Manyatta") to learn about the
local people's unique culture and lifestyle is possible at an extra fee.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Lodge.
Day 7: Samburu-Nairobi
An early morning game drive before breakfast marks the end of the visit
to the game reserve. Enjoy a late breakfast in the lodge and later check
out. Drive back towards Mount Kenya enjoying splendid views of the majestic
Mountain ahead. Take lunch enroute then drive back to Nairobi, to arrive
in the evening.
